News Blog – Aerial view of a container ship at sea, Skysails Group divests division for ship performance optimization.

The SkySails Group GmbH has sold the SkySails Marine Performance GmbH to a consortium from the shipping industry. The new company will continue business as of now under the new name of Albis Marine Performance GmbH.

The sale is related to SkySails’ increasing focus on the development and production of airborne wind energy systems for power generation. Stephan Wrage, Managing Director of SkySails Group GmbH: “The shipping industry is facing a huge challenge with the IMO requirements to reduce CO2 emissions. Digital performance solutions, such as the products of the SkySails Marine Performance GmbH, are a key element in making shipping fleets worldwide fit for the future. However, the focus of the SkySails Group has increasingly shifted from the shipping to the energy sector in recent years. In order to give SkySails Marine Performance a greater scope for development in its dynamic market environment, we have therefore decided to spin it off from the SkySails Group.”

The SkySails Marine Performance GmbH was founded in 2011 as part of the SkySails Group. It offers data-based solutions to optimize the operation of cargo ships, crew transfer vessels and ferries, enabling a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
